A modern retelling of the norse mythology. Fr. Mike (Wes Studi) has hidden a piece of Thor's hammer from Lok-eye, a viking warlock. Lok-eye kidnaps three children every spring and forces their mothers to find his prize. The only one immune to the Warlock's powers is Eric Thornton, called The Ugly One since he was a child. Eric only wants to win The Steel Gloves, an all out fight contest with a prize trip away from the madness. Fr.Mike must convince Eric to defeat the Warlock and save the very people who have treated him so cruelly his whole life. Eric Thornton has been called The Ugly One by everyone in his town since he was 10. Now he is the only one who can save them from a Viking Warlock searching for a lost piece of Thor's hammer. I saw The Ugly One at a private screening and found it very enjoyable. I do think guys will enjoy it more than women as there are multiple street fight scenes. Patrick did an excellent job in all aspects, writing, directing and acting and I was happy to see veteran actor Wes Studi in his role as a priest. I look forward to seeing more projects from Patrick Moug. I think we will be hearing more about this gentleman.

I hope this will be available on DVD in the future as I would like to share it with some of the guys I know. I would definitely recommend it to others. This is not an objective review of Patrick's feature film debut, just a comment.

I believe that anyone who takes the risk and finishes an independent movie deserves a huge round of applause. The final reality for most indie filmmakers often flattens the very dreams that inspired the effort. The new understanding of just how much is truly required of you and your crew is staggering.

Therefore, to comment on production value, story line, or special effects is really not the issue. The issue here is to see how it stacks up against the tremendous obstacles that faced everyone who who put forth the effort of telling their story on the big screen.

If you have the courage, vision, & perseverance to actually complete your first feature and then continue to follow your dream, that is what is most important.
